A Pearl of Wisdom from ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib

ʿAlī b. Abī Ṭālib would say:

ليس الخير أن يكثر مالك وولدك، ولكن الخير أن يكثر عملك ويعظم علمك، ولا خير في الدنيا إلا لأحد رجلين: رجل أذنب ذنوبا فهو يتدارك ذلك بتوبة، أو رجل يسارع في الخيرات. ولا يقل عمل مع تقوى، وكيف يقل ما يتقبل؟

“Goodness is not having a lot of money and children. Rather, goodness is that one’s good deeds are many and one is knowledgeable. There is no goodness in the world except for with one of two men. A man who sins, and then comes right with repentance. And a man who hastens to good deeds. Never consider a deed done in devotion to be insignificant. How can it be considered insignificant when it has been accepted?”
