WHAT IS THE TAKHAṢṢUṢ PROGRAM?
After completing their traditional ʿālimiyyah program, many scholars aspire to continue learning the Islamic Sciences and concentrating in a particular field. Aimed at aspiring scholars, the thoroughly engaging takhaṣṣuṣ program is focused on providing a high-quality educational atmosphere in which erudite ʿulamāʾ are trained.
The Takhaṣṣuṣ Program is for men and women that comprehensively imparts a well-designed syllabus. Deep and profound, the program is rooted in tradition, immersing one into research, literature, and textual analysis that spans over 1400 years.

SOUND TRADITION
The institute’s instructors are connected back to Islām’s greatest scholars and have acquired traditional teaching licenses (ar. ijāzāt) in a vast array of subjects. They dedicated many years of their lives pursuing studies in the Arabic language and the sacred sciences locally, as well as abroad at eminent Dār al-ʿUlūms based on the South Asian pedagogical model and at renowned centers of learning in the Middle East. With their varying backgrounds, what each teacher contributes to the learning environment makes this program especially unique. This combination of talent cumulates, exposing the pursuant learner to studies that equal or surpass overseas opportunities.
HOW TO APPLY
Shāfiʿī Fiqh (Takhaṣṣuṣ)
In this program, scholars and advanced students of knowledge will study the legacy of Imām Shāfiʿī’s school. One will focus on studying how the madhhab developed by reviewing the biographies of the Shāfiʿī scholars along with their literary contributions. The school’s nomenclature, its legal maxims, and its principles will be researched; one will learn the protocols for how fatwā is given according to the madhhab. Additionally, the muftā bihi works of fiqh and the fatāwā literature will be studied. Through engaging them and observing the scholars’ discourse, one will begin to develop the mindset of a faqīh. This program includes a rigorous research and writing component, one will be required to examine legal issues according to Shāfiʿī Fiqh and document their findings in a written medium to be presented for critical review. By studying in this program, one will understand the framework of the Shāfiʿī Madhhab at an advanced level and become aware of how the jurists operate within it. One will connect to the madhhab’s scholarly legacy through research, writing, teaching, and learning.
CURRICULUM – Takhaṣṣuṣ fil hadith
DarusSalam Seminary’s Takhaṣṣuṣ fī al-Ḥadīth Program is a two-year, postgraduate program that will, inshāʾAllah, provide one with a firm grasp of Ḥadīth, ʿulūm al-ḥadīth, and its ancillary sciences. The program will broaden one’s exposure to the subject, expose one to authorship in the field, provide one with an understanding of differing views in the ḥadīth sciences from within the Muslim tradition, and acquaint one with the challenges and contentions raised against Ḥadīth from both Muslim and non-Muslim perspectives.
By studying in this course, one will, inshāʾAllah, gain the ability to:
- Locate narrations in the primary sources.
- Assess the status of narrators.
- Compare variant narrations.
- Ascertain the authenticity of narrations and chains.
- Identify weakness in narrations and chains.
- Understand and appreciate the scholars’ methodologies and approaches.
- Identify the signs of spurious narrations.
- Understand and evaluate varying approaches to the ḥadīth sciences.
- Understand the criticisms and challenges posed to the Ḥadīth while developing the competency required to address them.
