A Pearl of Wisdom from Qatādah

Qatādah once said:

ما سمعت شيئا إلا حفظته ولا حفظت شيئا فنسيته

“I did not hear anything except for that I memorized it. And I did not memorize anything that I forgot thereafter.”

After Qatādah said this, he turned to his servant and said:

هات نعلي

“Bring my sandals?”

His servant replied:

هما في رجليك

“You are wearing them.”
