A Pearl of Wisdom from Abū ʿUthmān Saʿīd b. Ismāʿīl al-Ḥīrī

Abū ʿUthmān Saʿīd b. Ismāʿīl al-Ḥīrī said:

الخوف من الله عز وجل يوصلك إليه والعجب يقطعك عنه واحتقار الناس في نفسك مرض لا يداوى

“Fearing Allāh brings you near to Him. And conceitedness severs your connection from Him. Disdaining people inwardly is an illness that has not been cured.”
