A Pearl of Wisdom from Sufyān al-Thawrī’s Mother

Sufyān al-Thawrī’s mother said:

يا بني إذا كتبت عشرة أحرف فانظر هل ترى في نفسك زيادة في مشيك وحلمك ووقارك فإن لم تر ذلك فاعلم أنه يضرك ولا ينفعك

“O my son! If you write ten letters, see if you find yourself improving in your personal development, your prudence, and your reverence. If you do not see that, then know that it is harming you and not benefiting you.”
