A Pearl of Wisdom from Ibrāhīm al-Nakhaʿī

Once, some visitors came to see Ibrāhīm al-Nakhaʿī. They found him crying and asked why he was crying. He replied:

أنتظر ملك الموت لا أدري يبشرني بالجنة أم النار

“I am anticipating the Angel of Death and I do not know if he will give me glad tidings of Paradise or Hellfire.”
