Qatādah b. al-Nuʿmān
Qatādah b. al-Nuʿmān was a maternal brother to Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī and from the Tribe of Aws. His mother was Anīsah bint Qays al-Khazrajiyyah. His familial roots were well-established in Medinah. It is mentioned that he was the first individual to bring the Holy Qurʾān into the city. He participated in the Battle of Badr. It is mentioned that his eyeball popped out during in battle, and the Prophet placed it back into the socket. Thereafter, his eye worked perfectly; in fact, it functioned superior to the one that was not injured. And he lived into the caliphate of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb. ʿUmar performed his funeral prayer and lowered him into his grave. He lived to the age of sixty-five. (al-Iṣābah, 5:317)
