A Pearl of Wisdom from Imām Mālik

The scholars mentioned that Ibn Abī Dhʾib was Mālik’s contemporary. As well, they both resided in the same place. Ibn Abī Dhʾib compiled a Muwaṭṭaʾ which was much larger than Mālik’s. Once, Mālik was asked: “What’s the benefit of your Muwaṭṭaʾ?” He replied:

ما كان لله بقي

“Whatever is done for Allāh’s sake shall remain.”

(al-Taʿlīq al-Mumajjad, 1:14)
