A Few Fawāʾid Regarding the Early Aṣḥāb and Their Disseminating the Madhhab
al-Anmāṭī
In his biographical entry for Abū al-Qāsim ʿUthmān b. Saʿīd al-Anmāṭī, Ibn al-Subkī wrote:
قلت هو الذي اشتهرت به كتب الشافعي ببغداد وعليه تفقه شيخ المذهب أبو العباس بن سريج، قال أبو عاصم: الأنماطي لأهل بغداد كأبي بكر بن إسحاق لأهل نيسابور فإنه أول من حمل إليها علم المزني
al-Junūjirdī
Abū Muḥammad ʿAbdān b. Muḥammad b. ʿĪsā al-Junūjirdī is one of the early scholars of the Shāfiʿī madhhab. He is a student of Imām Shāfiʿī’s direct students, like Rabīʿ b. Sulaymān al-Murādī. Sayyid Aḥmad Bey al-Ḥusaynī mentioned that he was the first to take Mukhtaṣar al-Muzanī to the city of Merv. (Murshid al-Anām, #60)
Abū Bakr al-Fārisī
Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥasan al-Fārisī is the author of ʿUyūn al-Masāʾil. He studied with Imām Muzanī. Sayyid Aḥmad Bey mentioned that he was the first to teach the madhhab via Muzanī in the city of Balkh. (Murshid al-Anām, #81)
Abū ʿAwwānah al-Isfarāyinī
Abū ʿAwwānah Yaʿqūb b. Isḥāq al-Isfarāyinī studied with Murādī and Muzanī. Sayyid Aḥmad Bey mentioned that he was the first to teach the madhhab in the city of Isfarāyīn. (Murshid al-Anām, #95)
Ibn Marthad
Ibn al-Ṣalāḥ mentioned that Abū Saʿīd al-Ḥasan b. Muḥammad Ibn Marthad al-Aṣbahānī was the first to take the madhhab into Aṣbahān. (Ṭabaqāt al-Fuqahāʾ al-Shāfiʿīyah, 1:456)
Abū Bakr al-Bayhaqī
Ibn al-Subkī discussed if Bayhaqī is the first to gather all the nuṣūṣ of Imām Shāfiʿī or the last. (Ṭabaqāt, 4:10)
