A Pearl of Wisdom from Abū al-Qāsim al-Qushayrī

Imām Nawawī related the following gem from Abū al-Qāsim al-Qushayrī:

الصمت سلامة وهو الأصل والسكوت في وقته صفة الرجال كما أن النطق في موضعه أشرف الخصال

“Silence keeps one safe. One should default to it. Maintaining it in its proper place and time is a manly quality just like speaking in its proper place and time is one of the most noble qualities that one may possess.”
