A Pearl of Wisdom from Imām Shāfiʿī

Imām Shāfiʿī was once asked regarding which condition Allāh loves most, bestowing favor or tribulation, to which he responded:

ما جاء العطاء إلا بعد البلاء فاصبر على البلاء تبشر بالعطاء

“The bestowal of favor only comes after tribulation. Be patient with tribulation, and one shall rejoice when favor is bestowed.”
