A Pearl of Wisdom from Salmān al-Fārisī

Salmān al-Fārisī said:

إن العبد إذا كان يدعو الله تعالى في السراء فنزلت به الضراء فدعا قالت الملائكة صوت معروف من آدمي ضعيف فيشفعون له وإذا كان لا يدعو في السراء فنزلت به الضراء قالت الملائكة صوت منكر من آدمي ضعيف فلا يشفعون له

“Verily, when the slave supplicates to Allāh during good times, and then affliction befalls him, the Angels say: ‘This is a weak human’s voice that we recognize.’ And then they intercede for him. But when one does not supplicate during good times, and affliction befalls him, they say: ‘This is a weak human’s voice that we do not recognize.’ And they will not intercede for him.”
