Applications for the 2024-2025 Academic Year have closed. We are now open for applications for the 2025-2026 Academic Year. Candidate interviews for the 2025-2026 Academic Year will be conducted in January 2025.
“It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an: Recite and rise in status. Recite as you used to recite in the world, for your status will be at the last verse that you recite.” [at-Tirmidhi]
MORE THAN JUST MEMORIZATION
We want to assure you that we are committed to providing the best possible learning experience for all our students. To achieve this, we have established specific prerequisites that all students must meet before applying for our Tahfiz program. Our goal is to ensure that your child possesses the necessary skills and meets our program's standards, thereby avoiding any wastage of time and resources. If your child satisfies all of the necessary requirements, we encourage you to apply, and we look forward to the opportunity to evaluate your child for the program.
- Age: Our program enforces a minimum age requirement of 9 years. We apologize, but we cannot accept students who are younger.
- Quranic fluency: We require that your child can read the Quran fluently with correct pronunciation and has some background in tajwid studies.
- Developmental readiness: To excel in our program, your child should be able to focus and learn independently for extended periods. This requires a high level of maturity and self-discipline.
- Character and decorum: We hold our students to the highest standards of respect, etiquette, and conduct. Your child's behavior and demeanor should reflect these values at all times.
- Motivation: A personal desire to become a Hafiz is a prerequisite for your child's admission. We do not accept students who are coerced or pressured to participate in the program.
By adhering to these prerequisites, we are confident that we can provide a high-quality program that meets the needs of each student. It's worth noting that our selective hiring process and teacher-student ratio are integral to maintaining the high standards of education that we are committed to providing. If we were to accept every child into the program, it would mean sacrificing the very quality that you value and seek in our institution.
We understand that many families are relocating to be a part of our community, especially those seeking the opportunity for their child to pursue Hifz with us. However, it's important to note that admission to DarusSalam cannot be guaranteed unless your child meets the necessary requirements and if there is sufficient space available. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the admission process.
Enrollment at our institution is contingent upon completion of the admission process, which applies to all applicants. No one can unilaterally influence or enforce enrollment. It's important that applicants and their guardians follow the formal procedures in order to ensure a smooth enrollment process. Failure to do so may have an impact on the enrollment decision.

METHODOLOGY
Our program not only concentrates on memorizing the Qur’an with correct tajwid; a strong emphasis is also made on maintaining what has already been memorized. Students are encouraged to work rigorously in order to preserve the previous lessons. The Seminary also strives to nurture students’ overall moral and ethical values, preparing them for leadership in the Muslim community.
Parents can expect students to finish the memorization of the Qur’an, on average, in 3-4 years.
Daily Qur’an Recital Schedule
Previously memorized Juz (Amukhta): The students first recite a previously memorized juz (upto two previously memorized juz). They are required to recite the entire juz satisfactorily. If the previously memorized juz was not recited satisfactorily, they will not be allowed to recite their new lesson for that day and have to review and repeat the previously memorized juz again.
Current Juz (Sabaq Para): After reciting their revision with limited mistakes, the students will then revise and recite their current juz. Again, they are required to recite the entire current juz satisfactorily. If the current juz was not recited satisfactorily, they will not be allowed to recite their new lesson for that day and have to review and repeat their current juz again.
New Lesson (Sabaq): If both previously memorized juz and current juz are recited with limited mistakes, the student will then have earned the opportunity to recite their new lesson. No memorization mistakes, hesitations or Tajwid mistakes are allowed in the new lesson.
These rules are to ensure that our students retain what has previously been memorized properly, and to ensure that their new lessons have the best potential to be retained in the strongest way possible. A weak new lesson will lead to a weak current juz’ which will in turn lead to an overall weak memorization of the Qur’an. This is why it is important that the previously memorized juz’, current juz’ and new lesson are recited fluently, and with full confidence.
Islamic Studies: Each day, students are taught a lesson from various Islamic sciences, including fiqh, hadith, adab, and du'a.

THE LAMP (LANGUAGE ARTS & MATHEMATICS) PROGRAM
The Language Arts and Mathematics Program (LAMP) is a unique effort specifically aimed at building the reading, writing, and mathematical skills of DarusSalam Hifz students.
The extraordinary amount of time and effort spent in memorizing the Book of Allah SWT leaves the Hifz students with little time for secular studies. The LAMP is designed to deliver high-quality middle school and/or early high school level language arts and math instruction taught by our dedicated and highly qualified teachers. Every student is assessed at the start of the program to determine their appropriate instructional level. The LAMP provides an essential in-depth language arts and mathematics curriculum during the hifz process, thereby easing the transition back to school when the student has completed hifz and is ready to resume full-time secular studies.

Prospective students can apply for admission to DarusSalam Seminary at any time during the year, as the institution offers rolling admissions. However, once all available spots are filled, applications will be considered for the following academic year. Evaluations for admission are conducted on a designated Saturday in late January.
The online application process is completed via RenWeb. This simplifies submission and provides applicants the ability to track the status of their application. After submitting the application, you will be able to track your admissions status at the school by logging in to your account. In addition, you will be able to print the completed application and monitor when the school receives any applicable supplemental forms. A non-refundable fee of $100 must be submitted with each application.
There are specific prerequisites that all students must meet before applying for our Tahfiz program.

- Motivation: A personal desire to become a Hafiz is a prerequisite for your child's admission. We do not accept students who are coerced or pressured to participate in the program.
After a student applies and their evaluation is complete, the office will contact the parents via email. If the student is accepted, their admission into a Hifz class is dependent on successfully completing the Hifz Prep Course, which is mandatory for all students, whether they are new or transferring. This means that every student admitted into our Tahfiz program must complete the Hifz Prep Course before they can join a Hifz class.
Hifz Prep Course
In the Hifz Prep course, students work on learning Tajwid, fluency in reading the Qur'an etc., before entering a full-time hifz class. How long a student takes to complete the curriculum and move to a Hifz class depends on their effort and progress. On average, students spend between 2-6 months in Hifz-Prep.
The curriculum consists of:
- Complete Qāʿidah - Safar Publications Learn to Read Series
- Rules of Tajwid - Safar Publications Learn to Read Series
- Nazirah of Quran (reading the Qur'an (while looking) clearly and fluently while applying all Tajwid rules)
- Memorizing the 30th Juz
- Demonstrating proficiency in memorization by memorizing five randomly assigned pages.
In order for students in the Hifz Prep class to enter the Full-Time Hifz Program, they must:
- Recite the Qur'an (while looking) clearly and fluently while applying all Tajwid rules
- Score a 90 or above on a written Tajwid rules exam
- Score a 90 or above on an oral Tajwid rules exam
- Recite the 30th juz from memory without any mistakes.
- Display adeptness in memorization by successfully learning and retaining five pages assigned at random.
Upon admission into the Full-Time Hifz Program, students will be placed on a four-month trial or probation period. During this period, the administration may dismiss a student from the program if they determine that the student is not performing satisfactorily.
Transfer Students
All transfer students are required to follow the process mentioned above. After applying and completing the evaluation process, the office will contact the parents via email. Admission into a Hifz class is conditional on successful completion of the Hifz Prep Course, which is mandatory for all students, including new and transfer students.
Once students have met the requirements of the Hifz Prep Course, they will be enrolled in the Full-Time Hifz Program for a four-month trial or probation period. The administration retains the right to dismiss a student from the program if they determine that the student is not meeting the necessary standards.
It is important to note that incoming transfer students must review and recite what they have previously memorized to meet the program's standards mentioned in the Handbook before they can start receiving new lessons.
